What to expect when you get a dental implant

Most people are surprised by how straightforward an implant is. Here is what happens at each stage.

1. Planning

We take a 3D scan of your jaw and plan the implant position on screen, so we know the bone depth and nerve positions before we begin.

2. Placement

Under local anaesthetic, the implant is placed through a small opening in the gum. Most patients describe it as easier than a filling.

3. Healing

Over the next three months the bone grows onto the implant surface. You wear a temporary tooth so nobody can tell.

Take ibuprofen for a day or two, stick to soft foods for a week, and you will barely notice it.

4. The final crown

We scan the healed implant and our lab technician makes a crown matched to the teeth next to it.
