How often should you really replace your toothbrush?

It is one of the questions we hear most, and the answer is simpler than you might think: every three months, or sooner if the bristles look splayed.

Why bristles wear out

A worn brush removes up to 30% less plaque than a new one. Bristles that bend outwards cannot reach into the gumline, which is exactly where gum disease starts.

When to replace it sooner

Swap your brush after a cold or flu, if it has been stored touching someone else's, or if you notice the bristles fraying within a few weeks. Fast fraying usually means you are brushing too hard.

If your brush looks like a mop after a month, ease off the pressure. Gentle circles clean better than scrubbing.

Electric or manual?

Both work well with good technique. Electric brushes with a pressure sensor help people who brush hard, and the two-minute timer is useful for everyone.
