Planning a home addition: what to check first
Zoning, setbacks, foundations and budget: the four things to check before drawings.
It is the first question everyone asks, so here are real numbers from the kitchens we have built since 2024.
Refresh: $25,000 – $40,000
New doors, worktops, appliances and lighting in the existing layout. Plumbing and walls stay put.
Mid-range remodel: $45,000 – $85,000
A new layout, custom cabinetry, quartz worktops and an island. This is where most of our clients land.
Premium: $90,000 and up
Structural changes, stone slabs, integrated appliances and a butler's pantry.
Cabinets are usually 35–40% of the budget. Choose them first and the rest falls into place.
What pushes costs up
Moving gas lines, removing load-bearing walls and changing window openings all add cost, but often add the most value too.
