How often should you groom your dog?

The answer depends on the coat. Here is the guide our groomers give every new client.

Curly and doodle coats

Every 4 to 6 weeks, with brushing at home two or three times a week to stop mats forming.

Double coats

Huskies, shepherds and retrievers need a de-shed every 8 to 12 weeks, and more in spring. Please do not shave them: the double coat helps keep them cool.

A matted coat can hide sore skin. If you cannot get a comb to the skin, it is time for a groom.

Short coats

A bath every couple of months and a weekly rubber-mitt brush is plenty.
